Our Story

The Story

At 19, Don Carlos Aristi set off across the Yucatán peninsula in search of Mayan culture and found an ancestral drink: a sacred fermented beverage called balché. He returned to Mérida convinced of its potential, worked out his own recipe, and started a small liquor business with his brother. That gave rise to D'Aristi Xtabentún, a honey and anise liqueur, and to Casa D'Aristi.

Casa D'Aristi was founded in 1935 at a hacienda in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, and makes artisanal liqueurs rooted in Mayan culture. Nearly 90 years later, the family distillery still produces its full range at the original hacienda, keeping close ties to local farming communities and to the stingless-bee keepers who supply its Mayan honey.

Every Casa D'Aristi liqueur is made with natural, locally sourced ingredients, with no artificial additives or flavourings. The range draws on the flavours, fruits and traditions of the Yucatán peninsula: Xtabentún honey-anise liqueur (inspired by balché), Kalani coconut liqueur from Yellow Dwarf Coconuts harvested at a 19th-century colonial plantation, Huana soursop liqueur, Narano bitter orange liqueur from native Yucatán oranges, and Ron Caribe artisanal rums from 100% sugarcane juice.

Meet the maker

The Founder

At 19, Don Carlos Aristi travelled across the Yucatán peninsula, found the ancestral Mayan drink balché, and returned to Mérida to work out a honey and anise liqueur inspired by it. With his brother, he founded Casa D'Aristi in 1935. The family distillery has run at the original Mérida hacienda for nearly 90 years.
